Tofino sits on the wild western edge of Vancouver Island, where rugged coastlines meet ancient rainforests and the Pacific Ocean crashes against untamed beaches. It’s one of the most photogenic destinations in British Columbia—and I’ve spent years discovering its hidden corners.
This land is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, part of the Nuu-chah-nulth peoples. Honoring this heritage adds deeper meaning to every photo session, connecting us to the culture and history of this sacred landscape.
Below, I’m sharing some of Tofino’s most stunning photography locations—plus a few hints about the secret spots I reserve exclusively for my clients.
The Famous Beaches (and this is just the beginning)
Long Beach
Long Beach is Tofino’s crown jewel, an endless stretch of sand that curves for over 16 kilometers along the Pacific coastline.
This is where the wild ocean meets the shore with full force, creating dramatic waves that crash against weathered driftwood logs.
At sunset and sunrice, the sky explodes in shades of orange, pink, and purple, reflecting off the wet sand and creating mirror-like surfaces perfect for silhouette photography. The constant wind adds movement to hair and clothing, bringing an organic, editorial feel to portraits.
While it’s the most popular beach in the area, its vastness means you can often find quieter sections, especially if you’re willing to walk further from the main access points.
These combinations make Long Beach iconic for a reason—but it’s just the beginning of what Tofino offers.
Chesterman Beach
Chesterman Beach offers a completely different energy—more intimate, more sheltered, and endlessly diverse.
Split into North and South sections by a rocky outcrop, this beach reveals its magic at low tide when tidal pools emerge with crystal-clear reflections of the sky.
The sand here is softer and lighter than Long Beach, and the coves offer natural framing with rock formations and driftwood. This is where couples love to explore together.
The southern end provides dramatic rocky coastline and crashing waves, while the northern section offers calmer, more romantic settings.
Chesterman is where versatility meets beauty—you can capture ten completely different moods without leaving the beach.
Cox Bay
Cox Bay is for those who crave raw, untamed energy.
This beach has a darker, moodier personality—the sand is coarser and deeper in color, the waves are powerful and relentless, and the entire atmosphere feels more dramatic.
On overcast days, Cox Bay becomes almost cinematic—the grey skies, dark sand, and white-capped waves create a high-contrast, editorial aesthetic that’s perfect for bold, striking portraits.
Even on sunny days, the energy here is different from the softer beaches—it’s wilder, more intense, more alive.
If you want photos that feel powerful and unapologetic, Cox Bay delivers. And because it’s slightly off the main tourist path, you’ll often have more space to move and create without crowds.
Beyond the famous beaches
These three beaches are absolutely stunning, and we can create beautiful work at any of them.
But if you’re after something truly unique—quieter shorelines, hidden coves, and secluded stretches where most visitors never venture—I know those places too.
These secret locations are shared only with booked clients to preserve their magic and ensure your photos are one-of-a-kind.
Enchanting rainforests and natural trails
The Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is home to moss-draped forests filled with towering cedar and fir trees. Dappled sunlight filters through the canopy, creating an ethereal, fairytale atmosphere.
Popular trails like the Rainforest Trail and Schooner Cove Trail are accessible and gorgeous—but they can get crowded during peak times.
That’s why I’ve scouted lesser-known forest paths and hidden groves where ancient trees create natural cathedral-like spaces. Imagine photos surrounded by ferns, moss-covered logs, and complete solitude. I reveal these spots only to clients who book with me.
